Rebecca Cummins- Who are you?

Writer: Lawrence LoreLawrence Lore

Dann Norton of Lawrenceville, a professional genealogist, sent me his latest blog post about the misinformation online about Rebecca Cummins, wife of Eli DeLong of Lawrence County. She is NOT the daughter of William Cummins and Delilah Toms as found on many online family trees.  She is actually the daughter of James Cummins listed on the 1830 Lawrence County census, and his wife, Mary Cummins, later the wife of Hugh Seeds.    James and Mary had four daughters—Betsy (married John Umfleet), Anna (married Howard V. Brown), Rebecca (married Edwin A. Brown and then Eli DeLong), and Jane (who married a Clark).  After James died before 1837, the widow, Mary, married Hugh Seeds and they had two children—Susan (Seed) Hershey and James Hugh Seed.  If you have any of these people in your family tree it would behoove you to check out his blog. His research is flawless. https://dannmnortongenealogy.wordpress.com/2025/02/

Dann encourages us to make 2025 the year we take substantial steps to verify our family trees. It is essential to ensure that each fact is supported by a credible source, such as an actual legal record, rather than relying on unverified information from others. The Research library is a valuable resource that can help you.
