Cemetery Restoration 2024

Because of some unforeseen events, our tombstone cleaning project for 2024 was not as vigorous as in years past.  The tombstone restoration continued though as seen in this video of Denison Cemetery south of Bridgeport on the blacktop.  Almost all stones have been reset and cleaned and a sign is ready for installation.

Restoration work was started at Otterbein Cemetery.

Brg. General, Dr. William Ephraim Panabaker’s tombstone was reset and is being cleaned as well.  Brg. General, Dr. William Ephraim Panabaker first served as a solider in the Mexican-American War, later becoming a physician, farmer, and Methodist minister. In the Civil War he organized Company A, 11th Missouri Infantry; first attaining the rank of Captain, then Commander of Company A, and finally a brevet Brigadier General.

And finally a very HEAVY tombstone for Lucinda Berkshire at Gaddy Wright cemetery was reset.

We are still accepting money for these cemetery restoration projects: Bell, Moffet, and Denison. If you wish to donate to other cemetery restoration work, please call us first.  (908-208-2372 ) Send checks to Lawrence County Historical Society, P O Box 425, Lawrenceville Illinois 62439.
